Business Mauritius: première réaction au budget 2018

«L’exercice budgétaire 2018 est encourageant. Il s’agit d’un budget très social, comportant des mesures intéressantes pour la formation des jeunes et l'intégration des femmes. Toutefois, une mise en oeuvre coordonnée et en partenariat des mesures reste clé», a déclaré Cédric de Spéville, président de Business Mauritius, lors d’une conférence de presse de l’association, visant à livrer une première analyse à chaud des mesures annoncées cette année. Il note aussi que les fondamentaux macroéconomiques, incluant le déficit budgétaire, la situation de la dette publique, l’inflation et l’emploi, sont généralement positifs.

Grant Thornton: «Du réalisme avec un soupçon de créativité»

The Minister of Finance started his speech with some impressive figures: an expected GDP growth of 4.1% for the year 2018-2019, a decrease in the unemployment rate to 6.9% in 2018 and a forecasted inflation of 3.5% for the year. Although these figures seem to demonstrate that the Mauritian economy is more resilient than expected, the Budget could have been bolder in ensuring the survival of traditional activities such as the agricultural economy and the manufacturing sector. Nevertheless, measures to foster the import substitution industry, revive export-led production and equip our youth with the right skills are innovative in their unconventional approach.
