The arrest of Nandanee Soornack’s lawyer upon his return to Mauritius after having met his client in Italy, and the seizure of his documents by the police, had the legal profession up in arms. Following the public condemnation of this issue last week by the president of the Bar Council, Antoine Domingue, along with other cases of alleged intimidation of law practitioners, Weekly speaks to Yahia Nazroo, secretary of the Bar Council about what this all means for the legal profession and Mauritius. We take the opportunity to also put questions to him about his own client, Nandanee Soornack. He talks to us in his capacity as barrister.
